Under the CIO's direction, the person will be responsible for participating in the development, maintenance and project support of various administrative web applications for contacts with students or clients, from the design of efficient database schemas to the frontend layout.

Web applications (written in Django) should allow either to convert old existing tools (i.e. programs for MS Windows) to Web 2.0 (reducing maintenance and software dependencies) or to introduce new features and to automate certain tasks.

When an established and under active development alternative exists (i.e. OpenConf, Magento...) then this alternative will be used and customized to ensure integration with the rest of the ICT infrastructure (i.e. LDAP authentication, database manipulation…) and to provide a useful data flow with the rest of available tools.

These alternatives should preferably be in PHP if a suitable Python/Django candidate is not found.

Qualifications and skills required

  • Bachelor's degree (or diploma) in computer science

  • Knowledge of relational databases (e. g. MariaDB) and SQL language

  • Knowledge of an object-oriented language such as Python

  • Knowledge of Linux administration (apache, nginx, cron...)

  • Knowledge of Web-oriented development techniques (Django, HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript...)

  • Advanced knowledge of French and/or Dutch

  • Advanced knowledge of English

  • Ability to listen and express yourself clearly

  • Good organization, autonomy, discretion

  • Interest in self-training and technology monitoring

  • Sense of responsibility

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to adapt to changing tasks

  • Ability to assess and meet delivery deadlines
